Dronography
Thoughts
Flying a drone is a lot of fun, but it’s important to fly safely and responsibly. Below are a few tips I recommend for beginners getting started with drones:
Start with lessons or official tutorials, such as DJI’s beginner guides.
For your first flights, choose a wide open field and make sure you’re the only person nearby.
Use airspace-checking apps like OpenSky to confirm the area is approved for drone flight.
Once you’re confident, obtain a drone licence or accreditation through CASA.
Most importantly — have fun and fly responsibly.

What you need to get started with droning, and what you can gain from it.
Drone
Choose a reliable beginner drone with strong safety features. Below are my personal recommendations for drones that are easy to fly, stable, and well suited for learning.
Spare Batteries and SD Card
Most drones use an SD card to store photos and videos, so it’s important to get a high-quality one — for example, a SanDisk 256GB card to avoid running out of space. I also recommend buying spare batteries, especially “Plus” or extended batteries, to maximise flight time and reduce downtime.
Business Opportunities
While many people fly drones just for fun, drones can also be used for photography, videography, and content creation. You can easily start a small filming or media project by researching local regulations and best practices. When filming in public, always keep a safe distance from people and obtain consent where required.
